Caddy carrier
We’ve been test driving the Chicco Caddy this month. It’s a lightweight knapsack style baby carrier suitable for use from 6 months until 15kg, around three years.
Caddy was very easy to put together and folded neatly into a compact unit, which fits behind the passenger seat in the car or a narrow cupboard at home. It comes in a beige colour, an appropriate tone for our countryside attire helping to remaining stylish on the go!
For Olivia, safety came first
The Caddy has a very padded seat for Olivia that can be simply made higher or lower according to the size of the baby using the appropriate straps. There is a fully adjustable five point safety harness and Olivia looked well contained and snug.
For Olivia – relaxed and happy
Olivia appeared to find her seat very comfortable as she found it easy to sleep during her trips out, and the carrying area is well padded to protect any nodding heads. She also has the luxury of a sunshade and a rain cover, vital for walking anywhere in the British Isles. Lucky her!
For Me, comfort was key
The carrier is easy to put on and take off and has back and waist straps to help evenly distribute a toddler-load. Thankfully Olivia is quite light and she was very comfortable to carry in the Caddy. I suspect it would fare as well with a heavier infant. When walking up hill and working up some heat, Caddy did not feel as hot and uncomfortable as others I have tried and I was pleasantly surprised. Other handy features include a zip-able bag to hold those walking essentials like GPS, sweets and sunglasses.
For us both
The Caddy has a handy flip out leg to support the backpack, in a chair like position on the floor during the loading and unloading process. This was a great help when out and about alone. A bit of advice to other mums: I sometimes had Olivia in the Caddy and put it on ready to go, only to then realise the support leg was sticking out. The only way to put the leg in when alone is to take her out and start again so remember to do it first!
Caddy has proved useful to keep in the car for Sunday country walks and it seems to be wearing well. We are planning a walking holiday soon when we’ll get it out and about and up some mountains. Can’t wait!
